What are your values? What values are most important for you to feel good?
Before you answer that question you need to understand what the values are in general. Your values are the things you think are important to you in private life and at work.
They (should) determine your priorities and, deep down, it probably is the criteria which measure about your life develops into what you want.
When the things you do and how you behave match your values are usually good life – you are satisfied and happy. But when your values and what you do and how you act does not match the feel things … wrong. This can lead to great sense of unhappiness.
It is therefore important to make a conscious choice to identify your values.
How does your values you?
Values exist, whether you like it or not. Life can be much easier when you understand your values - and when you make plans and choice considering them.
If you value your family, but still have to work 70 hours a week outside the home, you will then feel inner conflict over there? And if you do not value competition, and working in a sales department, where the working environment is characterized by high competition, would you feel comfortable in that environment?
Understanding your values in these situations can really help you move forward to make you feel better. Once you know your personal values, you can use these to make choices about how you should live your life. You can by knowing your values to answer these questions:
- What kind of person is right for me?
- Should I accept these pages with another person?
- Should I compromise, or to be determined?
- Should I follow tradition or go my own way?
Take the time to understand your priorities in your life, and you will be able to make the best choices and identify your goals in your life.
Values are usually relatively stable, but they do not have strict limits. Through life can also change values. For example, when starting a career, success is money and status. However, when you have family is perhaps the balance between work and life more important and what you value most.
The definition of success and your values change through life. It is therefore important to always be aware of your values and how they may change over time. This is especially important if you feel an imbalance in life and does not understand why.
Define your values

Use examples from your personal life and at work.
- Why were you proud?
- Shared others your pride too? Who?
- What factors contributed to your feelings of pride?
Step 3: Identify the times when you felt most happy and satisfied
Use again both examples of work and personal life.

Step 5: Prioritize your top values
This step is probably the most difficult, because you have to understand yourself very well. Write down your values that you believe in most, they need not be in any particular order.
Refer to the first two valuations and ask yourself, “If I only could meet one of these, which one would I choose?”. It would help you to visualize a situation where you had to make that choice. For example, compare the valuations helpful and stability, imagine that you have to decide whether to sell your house and move to a new country to make valuable development work, or keep your house and make valuable aid work closer to home. Which would you choose?
Continue working your way through the list by comparing each value with each other until the list is in the correct order.
Step 6: Confirm your values
Check your top priorities and ensure that they fit with your life and your vision for yourself.
- Do these values make you feel good?
- Are you proud of your top three values?
- Would you be comfortable and proud to tell your values for people you respect and admire?
- Are these values the things that you would support, even if your choice was not popular?
When you think about your values and a decision, you can be sure to keep your sense of integrity and what you know is right, your decisions can now be taken with confidence and clarity. You will also know that what you do is the best for your current and future happiness and satisfaction.
To make value-based choices is not always easy. But making the right choice is less difficult in the long run.
Identify and understand your values is a challenging and important exercise. Your personal values are a central part of who you are and who you want to be. By becoming more aware of these important parts of your life, you can use them as a guide to make the best choices in any situation.
Some of life’s decisions are based really on to decide what you value most. When many options seem reasonable, it is well and good to trust your values and use them as a strong guiding force to get you in the right direction.
